Seafood seized by municipal inspectors

JEDDAH: Jeddah municipality's Abattoirs and Fish Markets Administration seized on Tuesday seafood from the fish market deemed unsuitable for human consumption.

“Our administration seized 2,380 kilograms of fish that was inedible, however 101 kilograms is being given to charities after it was confirmed that it was suitable for human consumption.” said Nasser Al-Jarallah, director of the administration.

Last month the municipality made an inspection sweep inside the downtown fish market where 102 fish displays, four storage units, two ice vendors were found to be in health code violation.

“We were able to inspect 288 refrigerators, and 929 large, medium and small trucks to which 37 violations were given and 17 financial fines were imposed on others,” said Al-Jarallah.
