Abu Dhabi -- Raw milk produced in the dairy farms in Abu Dhabi is free from residues of antibiotics, said Ahmed Kulaib Al Taneiji, manager at the animal and plant health department at the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority.

The authority carried out labouratory tests and field inspections on locally produced raw milk to ascertain their authenticity, as per a report prepared by Taneiji.

Speaking at a workshop on 'Use of Antibiotics in Animal Farms' at ADFCAADFCALoading..., Taneiji said, veterinarians precisely play an important role in preserving and protecting the livestock in the emirate and guarantee their safety from pandemic, food-borne diseases and antibiotic residues.

Dr Hamid Rajab Hamed, head inspector at the department of animal and plant health at the ADFCAADFCALoading..., said the most important recommendations of the workshop is to submit a proposal to prepare a list of antibiotics which is needed by each country so as to legalise the import of antibiotics, which is limited to what the country needs only.

In addition, there is a need to form an organised system or find alternatives so that the use of antibiotics could be reduced, Hamed said stressing the non-usage of antibiotics in the treatment where the authority sought samples from farms and markets in order to ensure that they are free from residues of antibiotics.
